I am directed by the Comptroller and Auditor General

to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of

State, that Mr C.C.Bowring, the Clerk in the Local Audit

Office in Hong Kong, arrived in England on leave of absence

on 20th instant.

2. Mr Bowring has drawn his salary in Hong Kong,

at the rate of $960 per annum, up to and including the 17th

ultimo, and is entitled to draw pay when on leave of absen-

ce at the rate of 4/- per dollar.

3. I am accordingly to request that the Crown

Agents may be instructed to issue Mr Bowring's pay to him

at that rate, on the production of his last pay certificate.

up to and including 17th proximo, after which date it is

proposed that Mr Bowring should cease to draw pay from Hong

Kong funds.

4. I am to add that no double payment of the

Hong Kong Clerk's salary is contemplated, as Mr E.M.Knox,

who has been selected to succeed Mr Bowring as: Clerk in

Hong Kong, will not commence to draw pay until 18th June.
